SUMMARY:Equation Writing with LaTeX
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder how your professor writes mathematical symbols\, equations\, and formulas so easily for your assignments? Ever been frustrated with the limitations and clumsiness of Microsoft’s Equation Editor when writing your lab assignments? Is the technical and aesthetic formatting of your senior thesis driving you crazy? The solution to all these problems is to learn LaTeX\, a document preparation system that makes writing mathematics simple and creates consistent formatting. \nIn this workshop\, we will step through the set-up of getting started with Overleaf to compile your first document. The first half of the workshop will go through the basics of LaTeX and writing math equations so you can start turning in clear solutions to your homework assignments online. The second half delves into formatting and referencing sections\, displaying figures\, using packages\, and citing sources\, enough to produce a professional senior thesis or publishable manuscript. \nPre-requisites \nThe entire workshop will be done through Zoom\, so please have a stable internet connection. \nParticipants \nOpen to all CMC Staff\, Faculty and Students

SUMMARY:Beyond the Basics: Data Tips and Tricks in Spreadsheets
DESCRIPTION:As part of International Love Data Week 2024\, we will be presenting an overview of some of the most common approaches for cleaning and organizing data when “row by row” manual editing just isn’t enough. This will include built-in functions of Excel and Google sheets\, easy-to use charts and visualizations\, and the challenges of working with dates. \n\n\n\nPlease be sure to bring your laptop or let us know if you need to borrow one so you can get hands-on experience through our workshop exercises.

SUMMARY:Programming Basics with Python (Part 1)
DESCRIPTION:Python is one of the most popular programming languages for data scientists\, web developers\, and machine learning practitioners. Its simple syntax makes it an easy-to-write (and an easy-to-learn) language. In this workshop\, you will learn the basics of the Python programming language by creating\, step by step\, a function that will potentially make grocery shopping easier. \n\n\n\nThis is a workshop designed for beginners\, so no prior knowledge of Python or any programming language is needed. \n\n\n\nPrerequisites \n\n\n\nThis is a Level 1 Workshop\, so no programming knowledge is assumed.

SUMMARY:Data Wrangling with R
DESCRIPTION:Data wrangling is the process of obtaining\, cleaning\, reshaping\, and transforming raw (and messy) data into a useable form of processed (and tidy) data. It is known that a majority of data analysts and data scientists spend as much as 80% of their time on data wrangling. Thus\, it is essential to get familiar with good data wrangling tools that help you save time and avoid errors. It is known that a majority of data analysts and data scientists spend as much as 80% of their time in data exploration. Thus\, it is essential to get familiar with good data wrangling and visualization tools that help you save time and avoid errors. In this hands-on workshop\, you will learn basic skills to import\, export\, filter\, transform\, and visualize data using the well-known data science package called tidyverse. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: (You will learn how to): \n\n\n\n\nImport and export data \n\n\n\nFilter and transform data with dplyer \n\n\n\nVisualize data with ggplot \n\n\n\nUse basic logical operations\n\n\n\n\nPrerequisites: \n\n\n\n\nBasic knowledge of R and RStudio (e.g.\, Programming Basics with R – Level 1) \n\n\n\nPosit Cloud account; if you don’t have one yet\, please create a new account at https://posit.cloud/ \n\n\n\nTidyverse package; please make sure that you have installed the tidyverse package in your R environment. See https://www.tidyverse.org for more information.\n\n\n\n\nParticipants: \n\n\n\nAll CMC Students\, Faculty\, and Staff
